The Ground Here

Kerr County is where the Hill Country gets properly steep. The Guadalupe rises here and cuts down through limestone, leaving the divides narrow and the slopes long. Ninety per cent of agricultural sales in the county come from livestock rather than crops, which tells you plainly what this land is for.

Slope changes the work more than acreage does. A road that would sit happily on flat pasture washes out in one season here unless it is crowned, drained and given somewhere deliberate for the water to go. Often the harder half of building a tank is getting the equipment to the site at all.

Game and exotics fencing is a real market here in a way it is not further east. High fence is a different build from a cattle fence — taller, tighter, and far less forgiving about terrain.
